I wasn't going to revisit Van Nguyen's impending gallow appointment again, but something needs to be clarified. Caught right in the middle of this diplomatic wrangle is the poor mother. How ridiculous of the Singapore government to authorise holding hands, and not a hug. What difference does it make to the prison officials or the government? But what a big difference it will make to the mother, though. I can't believe how inhumane governments can become. When the lecturer said in class that all blue eyed babies can be killed tomorrow if the government feels like it, I thought nothing of it. It just won't happen. It's too stupid, too over the top, too inhumane, too much a figment of my imagination... But no, it's real.

And suddenly all those suicidal thoughts make sense - I've just been spending too much time online...
