An Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) investigation into the Cityrail corporation recommended that Cityrail cut costs by removing guards, managers and ticket sellers as well as reducing operational overheads . It was also recommended a fare increase of up to 30 per cent over four years was necessary. The NSW Government rebuked suggestion of job losses and distanced itself from the fare increase issue. IPART will conduct a fare review later this year.
