government killed the tcard
The Tcard was killed by NSW government ambivalence it has been revealed. Papers tended to the court in a counter-suit brought by ERG over breach of contract reveal that the government neither ordered or directed its transport agencies to co-operate in the development of the Tcard.The Public Transport Ticketing Corporation (created by the government to oversee Tcard development) say they were never contractually required to ensure State Transit and Railcorp cooperated and any costs associated with delays were borne by ERG. ERG claims that delays resulted from work provided outside of the contract and the agencies' refusal to freely share information in a timely fashion. Once again, the government emphasised that this was not part of the contract and did nothing to assist the development of the program.
My thoughts: I can't stand the government's use of contract details to justify its lack of foresight for this city. The Tcard was first announced in 1996. It was ended in January 2008 after 12 years. Sydney will not be with a smart card ticketing system for at least 10 years.
