Be very careful. A survey by McAfee has revealed that that more than 19 per cent of websites with a .hk domain name contains unwanted ads, spyware, popups, spam and viruses.

Second riskiest is China's .cn domain name. The generic domain name .info was also found to be risky.

The survey assessed nearly 10 million websites in 256 countries for the number of adware, spyware, popups, spam, viruses, browser exploits and links to other websites they contained.

The safest countries are Japan and Finland, whilst the .gov domain was also considered safe.
