The United States, with an alleged financial backing of major movie and record industry labels, and the formal backing of countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the European Commission itself is behind the biggest push in passing the most draconian multilateral agreement on anti-counterfeiting trade ever seen.Obtained by Wikileaks, the alleged proposal document Discussion Paper on a Possible Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement was reportedly only provided to selected organisations. A simple read of it proposes expansive powers to seize and destroy devices suspected to infringe intellectual property laws and the granting of safeguards to ISPs from liability in return for unprecedented cooperation levels.
