another new one
It's politics again, and Australia now has a federal new opposition leader. The former unpopular leader Brendan Nelson (grumpy grandfather) played cunning calling a snap vote this morning. He lost narrowly by four votes. Our new opposition leader is former shadow Treasurer, Malcolm Turnbull. I was very impressed with his eloquence. His speech was superbly written and well spoken. His speech drew heavily upon his humble beginnings, single father and hard work attitude. That is a very clever move on his part. He is more well known for his rogue, ambitious, arrogant and superior attitude, something he wanted to quell early.
A little on his history. He is a multimillionaire (also the richest person in Parliament) that has worked in the Packer organisation as Counsel (litigant lawyer). He is successful lawyer and finance expert. He used to be managing director/partner of Goldman Sachs. This person had friends in high places even before he entered politics. He is a staunch republican, heading the Australian Republican Movement for many years. Having said this, the Liberal party is very divided on this issue.
I suspect this new Liberal leader would do very well against Rudd in this economic climate. His more confrontational style of leadership would be a welcome change.
