What a cute little boy. It's his second birthday!This is 悠仁 (Hisahito), the son of 文仁 (Akishino [Fumihito]), who is the second son of current Emperor, 明仁 (Akihito).
He is the first son to be born in the Japanese Imperial family since his father 41 years ago.
Laws allowing female heirs were prepared just prior to his birth in 2006 as Japan sought to deal with an heirless throne. The oldest son of current Emperor Akihito, 徳仁 (Naruhito) only fathered a daughter, 愛子 (Aiko). The second son, Akishino had only fathered two daughters.
Then amongst the political hullabaloo arrived Hisahito. It was a sigh of relief, and quashed any succession problems that plagued the Japanese Imperial family. It also quashed any plans for such a liberal law for probably another generation.
Hisahito is third in line after his uncle (first son) and father (second son). The Japanese Imperial family is the oldest in the world.
