safe travels
With many people now departing Australia for holidays around the world, please be reminded that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised against any travel to the following countries:
- Afghanistan
- Burundi
- Central African Republic
- Chad
- Iraq
- Somalia
- Sudan
- Zimbabwe
- Algeria
- Angola
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
- East Timor
- Eritrea
- Ethiopia
- Haiti
- Indonesia
- Lebanon
- Liberia
- Mauritania
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Saudi Arabia
- Sri Lanka
- Yemen
- We advise you to exercise a high degree of caution because of the uncertain political situation and high threat of terrorist attack.
- We continue to receive reports that terrorists may be planning attacks against a range of targets, including tourist areas and other places frequented by foreigners.
- You should avoid demonstrations, political rallies and concentrations of security personnel because of the ongoing political unrest.
- There is an ongoing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia relating to land adjacent to the Khao Pra Viharn temple (Preah Vihear in Khmer). There were instances of fighting between Thai and Cambodian military troops in October 2008 resulting in some injuries and fatalities. The temple is currently closed to tourists. Australians are urged to avoid travel to the area and to monitor local media.
- We advise you to exercise a high degree of caution in India because of the high risk of terrorist activity by militant groups.
- Australians should avoid travel to Mumbai at this time.

Those "against" and "reconsider" lists have hardly changed since I last travelled in August, lol. I wonder if those countries will ever be safe... :P Thailand and India however are ones that haven't come up in the past (especially India). Well Japan seems safe at the moment, lol.
And now severe flooding in Venice leaving tourists wading in waist deep water can be added to the list of travel hazards. Perfect.
Wow even venice is now under water... At least Bangkok is now alright. I was most surprised at India though.
At this rate, I'm definitely not going anywhere but maybe back to Melbourne... ♥
