boxing through the crowds

City stores opened as early as 5am but that did not deter crowds from flocking to the shops in droves today. Suburban shopping centres opened on Boxing Day for the first time ever. I was there, but I was not crazy and got to Westfield Miranda one hour after opening at 10am. The car park was already 75% full at that time.

Inside the department stores it was madness. People everywhere at 10am! Cash register printing sounds everywhere. Queues everywhere at least several people long waiting for payment.

I saw on the news the people queueing for the 5am opening and 80% of them were Asians. In both Sydney and Melbourne, the first people in the stores were Asian. How ambitious and what an attraction for bargains!

I contributed to the national spending binge, the value of which is expected to be 3% higher than last year. NSW is expected to spend $4.5 billion. Who said we were about to go into a recession?

Did you go and save Australia from economic doom today?
