hurstville parking drama
I had not been in a car to Hurstville in a very long time until yesterday. From Kogarah, we turn in from Railway Parade and go through the tunnel at Col Jones Swimming Pool and bank left behind the defunct Kam Fook Restaurant [onto Treacy Street] before going down [Alfred Street then] Park Road. It was there that at 3pm we encountered traffic snarls city-style.
We were stuck in traffic for almost 10 minutes, as the pooly designed Forest Road/Park Road/Alfred Street intersection started to drive people insane. In my opinion, there should be no right turn from Alfred Street into Forest Road as that is what holds up the traffic. People should be forced continue straight along Treacy Street and go around behind Sun Ming Restaurant then make right turns to get back onto Forest Road.
Anyway that wasn't my only gripe. As we went down Park Road to get parking, we realised that Westfield had closed all the car park entries. People were leaving and the car park looked somewhat empty, but all the entry gates had been pulled down without any notice as to why. There were marshalls directing people along Park Road in what I saw as simply farcical. There were clearly parking spots available and they refused to open the gates. Maybe they were open on the other side? Who knows? I would not have known because there were no signs to tell me so. Along Park Road were long traffic jams as confused people honked their horn and drove like wild chickens.
Situation = ridiculous.
Westfield Hurstville has not expanded its parking facilities for over 10 years (as early as I remember) and has not kept up with the increasing parking demand and growth of the area in recent years. At least it's free parking though. Parking is a pain, but public transport is even more of a pain.
