hk says: take that sydney!

Sydneysiders often boast how clean our harbour is, and how returning whales are a sign of positive environmental recovery. The humpback whales have deliberated, and Hong Kong waters are just as suitable for their frolicking pleasure as well. That's the verdict of one humpback whale who chose to swim into Hong Kong waters for the first time in the city's history. It was spotted of East Lamma Island, before making its way to south-eastern Hong Kong Island and around Stanley.

This historical first has been a hit with local Hong Kong people, who have gone out and set sail in hoardes in search for this not-so-elusive 10 metre whale. As thick fog descended onto the city today, many people who had Sunday plans to set sail into the harbour and chase down this creature had to regrettably cancel.

There are grave fears that the whale will be struck by small ships and large ships alike. Likewise, the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation team fear that the whale is sick or may have an internal problem that it attributes for the whale getting lost and ending up in Hong Kong.

For the whale to be able to survive several days in Hong Kong waters is a miracle in itself. I think it's a testament to Hong Kong's moves towards cleaning up its harbour. Good job!
