fuu fuu

I love how they call pig flu "swine flu". It has this elegant ring to it that "equine flu" had while it wreaked havoc across Australia last year. Let's not forget "avian flu" though. That one just sounded ghastly, so it's good that it's being suppressed. "Human flu" is just so bland, so common sounding.

Hmm... "fish flu" lacks that lethal sting. "Vegetable flu" sounds like a stir-fry dish you'd get at an Asian restaurant with poor spelling.

Sigh.

It'd be better if they stopped inventing more words for the vocabulary, especially when it involves dying people. These are words the world is better off without.

Affected Countries
Deaths:
  • Mexico
  • United States
Confirmed cases:
  • Hong Kong
  • New Zealand
  • Canada
  • South Korea
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • Costa Rica
  • Switzerland
  • Ireland
  • Austria
  • France
  • Netherlands
  • Denmark
  • Israel
Strict quarantine measures have been activated across all ports in Australia in readiness for the spread of the disease to the borders. This means that the government now has the power to detain people suspected of carrying swine flu. All passengers on flights from the United States and New Zealand will be screened for flu-like symptoms.

Symptoms
If you show any of these symptoms, see a doctor immediately:
  • fever
  • lethargy
  • lack of appetite
  • coughing
  • runny nose
  • sore throat
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
