budget 09

Well usually I'd do a Budget roundup and give my thoughts on what I think of the measures taken in the Budget, but this year things are different. I haven't even had time to read it and find out what it's about. So based on that, I have no comment.

Apart from:
  • feeling apprehension that the pension age would be increased to 67 in 2017, since it will mean that it would take longer to get our hands on that golden pension which is rising in 2011.
  • thinking that infrastructure spending is a good idea- but when will the works be carried out?
  • not understanding how you can have tax cuts and tax concessions at the same time. Why would someone earning $100,000+ have increased tax savings over someone earning $70-80,000?
  • getting confused at why you would be trying to stimulate an economy with a deficit, but at the same time factor in how to pay for it within the same budget
  • not seeing the logic why everything is becoming means tested?
  • seeing that there is a mindset in the Budget which pushed everything to 2011, 2017 and beyond. In other words, beyond the next election. Does Labor not expect to win the next one or the one after that?
  • failing to understand why people are getting so uptight about the word 'deficit'. A deficit hurts no-one in this economic environment. You don't expect us to be in surplus do you?
